Yesterday I went to see the movie Pompeii with my sister, I’m really passionate about the Antique Rome, the movie is great, with amazing effects, action, romance… and perhaps something predictable specially if you already knew the history of Pompeii and the Vesuvius…
The story was about Milo, who is played by Kit Harington (John Snow in Game of Thrones), a celt child who is forced to fight as a gladiator until the Eruption of the Vesuvius gives him a chance to scape and avenge the murder of his family… the end is a little unpredictable, so I’m not going to spoil that part…
What we see in the movie, or maybe what the director wanted we saw, was the words of Pliny the Younger and his description of that disaster and soften it with a little love story:
You might hear the shrieks of women, the screams of children, and the shouts of men; some calling for their children, others for their parents, others for their husbands, and seeking to recognize each other by the voices that replied; one lamenting his own fate, another that of his family; some wishing to die, from the very fear of dying; some lifting their hands to the gods; but the greater part convinced that there were now no gods at all, and that the final endless night of which we have heard had come upon the world.
Pliny the Younger (about the eruption of the Vesuvius)
I never going to understand hollywood directors, in history, yeah, the history we learned in school, has many individual stories around the world for make a good movie… and we have still the eternal movies of teenagers and killers or monsters… well I wish there more movies like Pompeii…
